The Ultimate Fighting Championship is a mixed-martial arts promotion in which a series of fights take place around the world, also known as fight nights. It calls itself the premier organization in MMA .
Mixed martial arts, of course, is nothing new dating back more than 5,000 years.
UFC was started in the US in 1993 and was sanctioned by Nevada Athletic Commission in 2001.
But UFC brings together some of the worlds best mixed martial artists, fighting each other at different weights with a main event taking place once a month. There are more than 40 events each year.
The UFC was censored in most American states because of the violence of the first fights of its events. Gradually, several rules appeared. Finally, the Athletic Commission of New Jersey examines the issue and creates in September 2000 a directory of rules called Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts to which it will be necessary to bend to be authorized to produce MMA events in this State. The UFC then adopts this regulation, as do most MMA organizations around the world. Here is an overview of this regulation:
Duration of the fightingOff-season battles last three rounds. Championship fights last five rounds. Since 2012, the main event of an event is also in five rounds (even if there is no title in play). The rounds last five minutes. A recovery period of 1 minute is respected between each round.
